Mara McKown

Research Assistant

Mara McKown is a MPH/MSW candidate at the Brown School. Mara received her BS in Biological Sciences with a botany focus from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. After obtaining a BS, Mara worked in refugee resettlement and immigration at the International Institute in St. Louis and taught math and health as a Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania. Mara is interested in using a system lens and applying system dynamics to public health and emergency response, and pandemic response and policies. Mara is passionate about understanding how refugee, internally displaced people and other transient populations and communities interact with formal and informal health systems, and emergency and epidemic response policies and procedures to ensure equitable responses.
